About Native American Cultural Tours

Native American Cultural Tours is a program under North Dakota Native Tourism Alliance (NDNTA), a nonprofit tourism collaborative representing the tribal nations of North Dakota:  Spirit Lake Nation, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation, Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate, and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.

Our mission is to protect, promote, and educate travelers of the culture, history, and environment of each North Dakota tribal nation while promoting sustainable tourism and developing economic opportunities for Our People and sovereign nations.

We specialize in bringing you Native American tours from the five federally recognized tribes to educate visitors about our heritage and create economic opportunities within our communities. Native American Cultural Tours is run by an entirely Native American board and every tour we provide is owned by the tribe it features.

The North Dakota Native Tourism Alliance

NDNTA(opens in a new tab) was established in May 2016 with the mission to protect, promote, preserve, and educate the world about the culture, history, and environment of our sovereign nations. The NDNTA will promote and educate through sustainable tourism while developing economic opportunities for our people and nations. Our vision is to enhance and promote Tribal Tourism as a means of economic development and growth for all North Dakota Tribal Nations while maintaining respect for sovereignty, tribal traditions, and lands.

Tribes of the Northern Great Plains

When people think about Native American culture, imagery of the Northern Great Plains tribes often comes to mind: buffalo hunts, eagle feather war bonnets, heroic chiefs. While these cultural icons continue to have relevance to our people today, the North Dakota tribes are more diverse than you can imagine and have much more to share.

Our five tribal nations once spread across the central plains of the U.S. and Canada. Today, they are located on reservations in rural North Dakota. Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians has the smallest and most dense reservation, while the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has the largest, spanning across the North and South Dakota border.
